The Great Fire of London started in the very early hours of September 2, 1666. My mother was a housewife. She thought that successful people spent a lot more time reading than watching TV. So she asked my brother and me not to watch too much TV, but to read two books every week in our free time. She would check them with marks, though she couldn’t read the books at all.
When I went to high school, I was an A-student, but not for long. I wanted cool clothes and hung out with friends. I went from being an A-student to a C-student, but I didn’t care. One night I complained about not having enough Italian shirts. Cushing Academy used to have 20,000 books in its library. But this small American high school began to use electronic books (e-books) instead of printed books since last summer. Why? School leaders say it’s the way of the future. “The school wants to put its focus on 21st-century learning,” the library’s manager, Tom Corbett, says. Few students are using library books to do their homework now. Most do their research online. Changing the library seems like the best way to meet students’ needs. Emma and Hannah are 13-year-old school girls from Minnesota, USA. They are good at making new things and both of them are also good at sales. They are selling charms (小装饰物) made out of bottle caps.
